Who's Who in Outreach : Esther Perel

Esther Perel My work is geared primarily toward the family. My involvement with JOI has been since 1990 when I spoke at their first conference on Intermarriage, Outreach and Conversion. I have recently conducted sessions of the Outreach Training Program sponosored by JOI.

Many of my articles on intermarriage have been published by the Jewish Outreach Institute. Among them are: "Communicating In and About Intermarriage: Exploring Marital Content & Process," in The Imperatives of Jewish Outreach, and "Ethnocultural Factors in Marital Communication Among Intermarried Couples" in The Journal of Jewish Communal Service, Spring 1990.

I have counseled extensively in the areas of cultural identity, cross cultural relations, and ethnic and religious intermarriage in Europe, Israel and North America. Some of the projects include:

  • offering cross-cultural training for executives, international managers, and aid workers
  • consulting international peace educators on the psychology of cross-cultural conflict resolution
  • teaching cultural competence to health care professionals in the US as well as those working internationally with refugee resettlement
  • designing and providing relocation training and transitional counseling for executives and their families
  • conducting workshops on cross-cultural communication and gender differences in a multinational context
  • I am currently a senior faculty member of the couples program at the 93nd Street 'Y' and a clinical instructor in the Department of Psychiatry, NY Medical School.
