The title of the new film Flannel Pajamas suggests something warm and cozy. And there is something warm and cozy about newfound love. But this film seems to reflect the challenges of contemporary love stories which are real—rather than the kind of artifice for which Hollywood became known. It appears the couple—Stuart and Nicole—follow the kind of guidance I give couples as they are contemplating their future lives together. They don’t avoid the hard questions—made even harder because of their interfaith relationship and the challenges with which their parents present them. What potentially makes this film special is that it is not an educational film. Rather it seems to tell a story and an important lesson about life, especially for the many viewers who will see themselves in it.
