We are thrilled to introduce you to our newest Big Tent Judaism advocacy campaign, "There's No Shame in Asking," and invite your cooperation. Since Principle #6 of Big Tent Judaism is to "Lower Barriers to Participation," and we know that financial challenges prevent some people from joining Jewish communities, we've created resources to address the financial challenge. We are asking you to utilize and help distribute these resources. If you haven't yet, click here to join the coalition today, and participate in this important campaign.
The "No Shame in Asking" campaign includes:
- A large palm card (a non-mailable postcard), 100 free hardcopies of which will be made available to each of the first 90 Big Tent Judaism organizations that reply (we only ask you pay a $5 flat rate for shipping). Inspired by the story of Purim, the card suggests that the courage of Queen Esther, who bravely came forward with her true identity to save the Jewish people, can serve as a model to encourage those who cannot afford affiliation or membership to come forward and ask for assistance. It includes specific language for those who are facing financial challenges to initiate the conversation, and a promise that they will be met with sensitivity. Click here to see a PDF of the card.
- Big Tent Judaism organizations that want to distribute the palm cards will also be provided with a Word-document template for Avery labels in order to include your own organization's name, logo, and contact person/information on each and every one of the palm cards. Because of the promise for sensitivity, we are asking that the palm cards NOT be distributed without such a label (we want to guide end users to the specific organizations and professionals who will meet that promise). The palm cards will also come with distribution suggestions, for you to get them into the right people's hands.
- An additional resource for organizations that participate in the "There's No Shame in Asking" campaign will be an upcoming webinar in which organizations share their innovative models and best practices for creating accessibility to those with financial needs. If you utilize an innovative best practice, let us know so we can consider highlighting your work during the conversation.
To join in this campaign, please email Paul Golin at PGolin@JOI.org and we will provide you with those resources. Also feel free to be in touch if you have questions and I will be happy to provide additional information.
We welcome all Jewish communal professionals and lay leaders in Big Tent Judaism organizations to participate and receive these resources. We invite you to register your organization to be a part of the Big Tent Judaism Coalition today!
