JewsByChoice.OrgAlthough as an "informal group" we really don't provide direct services to anyone, our group blog functions as a discussion forum, and informational clearinghouse, on a variety of topics related to Jewish engagement and living, relevant to Jews by choice, as well as others who wish to learn more about Jewish culture, spirituality and observance. Through our online activities we meet the following Big Tent principles.
- Welcoming All Newcomers: We achieve this by welcoming and encouraging participation from visitors to our web site regardless of where they are on their Jewish journey.
- Celebrate Diversity: We consider ourselves to be a trans-denominational group and therefore try to reflect a diverse view of opinions in terms of ideology, theology and practice.
- Deepen Jewish Engagement: We believe that through the discussions which take place on our blog, and as a result of the resources which are shared on our blog, we encourage individuals to think about, and reflect upon their level and style of Jewish engagement.
- Lower Barriers to Participation: By acting as an informal "learning exchange," we help individuals deepen their understanding and connection to Judaism, therefore potentially increasing their level of Jewish literacy, and hopefully helping to solidify and strengthen their sense of Jewish identity. We would argue that by doing this, we may be helping individuals feel more comfortable in participating within their real world Jewish communities.
- Create Partnerships: Although we are an informal group and a relatively new one at that, by becoming members in the Big Tent Judaism Initiative, we have taken our first step in creating partnerships.
- Enlist Members for Outreach: We have on several occasions, invited regular visitors, who frequently comment on our posts, to become contributors themselves. Therefore, you could say that we enlist active members to engage in outreach albeit even if it's an informal form of outreach.
